Overview

Paramount offers a nostalgic journey into Indonesian Chinese cuisine nestled in the heart of Menteng, Central Jakarta. This Cantonese restaurant, located on Jl. RP. Soeroso, preserves a classic ambiance reminiscent of pre-2000s dining, drawing diners who appreciate familiar, comforting flavors and a cozy, unpretentious atmosphere.

The menu at Paramount is a true homage to traditional Indo-Chinese dishes, with standout offerings that capture the essence of the local culinary fusion. Signature plates such as Lumpia Udang Paramount deliver crisp, shrimp-filled rolls that balance texture and spice with ease. Their Gurame Goreng Tahu Tausi, a fried gourami fish paired with fermented black bean tofu, showcases harmony between savory and tangy notes, embodying the restaurant's skill in blending flavors. The Bistik Haas Panggang, an Indonesian take on Western-style beef steak, highlights the influence of local palates on classic recipes.

Paramount excels in serving hearty portions, making it ideal for groups or families who seek a shared dining experience. Returning guests often mention family celebrations here, a testament to the restaurant’s role as a longtime community favorite. The space itself, with its vintage decor, adds to the old-world charm, appealing to diners who enjoy a quieter, retro setting away from the fast-paced modern scene.

For solo diners or those eager to sample a broader variety of dishes, portion sizes might feel substantial, as small plates are not a prominent feature. However, the service enhances the overall experience; attentive staff frequently refill drinks and provide complimentary desserts like Aloe Coconut or Ginger Jelly, adding warmth to each visit.

The culinary style represents an Indonesian adaptation of Cantonese food rather than strictly authentic Hong Kong or southern Chinese cuisine. This local twist allows for diverse flavors that resonate well with domestic taste buds but may lack the refinement expected by travelers seeking an exact replication of Chinese classics.

In summary, Paramount serves reliable, homely Cantonese flavors with a distinctive Indonesian footprint. It's a place steeped in tradition, perfect for those who value consistency, generous dishes, and a pleasant, unassuming dining environment in Central Jakarta.

I recently dined here, a place I've heard for Indo Chinese restaurant but never had the chance to visit until now. While the experience was decent, it didn't quite meet my expectations or stand out among the many Chinese restaurants I've visited. While the food was acceptable, it lacked the wow factor that would make me want to return again. For me, it was just okay. If you're in the area and craving Chinese food, it's worth a try, but it might not become your go-to spot. A pleasant surprise was the complimentary dessert offered to all diners. It was a thoughtful touch that added a positive note to the meal. This small gesture made the experience a bit more memorable and showcased the restaurant's effort to please its customers.

This place has been my family’s favorite place from back in the 80s, this family run restaurant keeps everything simple but yet so homey and so consistent with their food. I’ve had so many birthday parties of me and my family’s over here. Love this place so much

This place is classic Indonesian Chinese cuisine that has been here for decades. The decor and feel is still pre 2000 era. Food is consistent and is very good. Our family has come here for events and gatherings more than I can remember. Service is good. They come by often and refill the tea, some free desserts at the end. Noteable dishes are lumpia udang, gurame goreng, bistik sapi, their ham fried rice etc. overall, their food is classic, consistent, and always hits the spot. Worth coming back to over and over again.

This is iteration of Chinese food but Indonesia style. Do not expect the quality and skill of the culinary to be on par with Singapore, Malaysia or Hong Kong, aka south China style Chinese food. The ingredients choose for some dishes will be similar but others looks like local improvising. Quite a wide selection. The layout of this place seems stuck in the 80s which is great for retro vides. Overall the food is ok but not outstanding. For the local more taste buds than visitors wanting some authentic Chinese cuisine.

Great Chinese-Indo-Dutch peranakan food served in a spacious, classic restaurant. My friend and I ordered nasi goreng ham (ham fried rice), daging panggang (roast beef. Which is more like lightly floured roasted beef served over mentega sauce), and cingkong kepiting (fried crab claw meatball). Everything were served by experienced waitstaff in uniform, they were even served covered using those old time stainless steel food serving covers! Everything tasted great. The nasi goreng had wok hei aroma and fragrance from the scallions. The flavor of the nasi goreng as a whole was not too salty, so it was a perfect pairing to their viands. The roast beef was super tender and the sauce tasted like a good, classic mentega sauce (mentega sauce is usually a mix of worcestershire sauce, ketchup, and butter/margarine if i’m not mistaken). The cingkong kepiting was also fried nicely. The texture of the meatball was chewy and tender. The flavor was that of fresh seafood. Even the pickles were really good. Chunky cuts of cucumbers and carrots that tasted fresh, crispy, tangy, and sweet. At the end of our meal, we got a complimentary dessert of a type of es campur with fillings of small tapioca pearls, pomegranate filled jellies, basil seeds, and a coconut milk/milk mixture as the base. It tasted great. A great place to experience a piece of history and to taste the beautiful amalgamation of Chinese, Dutch, and Indonesian cuisines.

Reminiscing the good old days. All things in Paramount restaurant Cikini, bring back all the good vibes back then. Built in 1970, more than 50 years old experience for providing great and tasty authentic chinese cuisine (cantonese style) Had the Fried Jie Fu Noodles (Ifumie) (7.5/10), Chicken Fried rice (8.5/10), Roasted beef (9.5/10)and the legendary pickles (10/10). At the end of our dining session, there's a selection of dessert (almond pudding with ginger sauce, tapioca pearl ice and Cincau hijau) Great service, they will never let your table full of dirty plates and great ambiance. So overall, if you want to experience all the good thing of chinese culinary experience with half a decade of experience, you can have it all here.

We celebrate our son’s birthday here and got complimentary dessert and ‘grape’ drinks. Overall the food is delicious. The taste is balanced perfectly, not too salty nor sweet. My personal favorite is ayam nanking which is chicken fillet with layer of shrimp meat. Fuyunghai and pangsit goreng cah are also recommended. I like the classic ambience of this restaurant. The service is also fast and friendly.
